The Western Kentucky basketball team will open the 2011 Charleston Classic against Tulsa at 11:30 a.m. (CT) on Nov. 17. in Charleston, S.C.
The schedules were released today for the event ? which will run Nov. 17-20.
The local tie with WKU?s first game of the tournament comes in the form of former Hilltopper D.J. Magley, who is now a member of the Tulsa basketball program.
Magley, who will be a senior next season for the Golden Hurricane, spent his first two seasons at WKU ? making appearances in two NCAA Tournaments before seeking a transfer prior to the 2009-10 campaign.
As for the game itself, WKU and Tulsa have met five times previously, with the Hurricane winning four. WKU won the first game on December 30, 1952, and Tulsa has won four-in-a-row. The most recent contest came in 1995, when Tulsa captured a 73-65 win in Bowling Green.
The other first-round matchups in the 2011 Charleston Classic are LSU-Northwestern, VCU-Seton Hall and Georgia Tech-St. Joseph?s.
WKU will face either LSU or Northwestern in the second round the next day, depending on the outcomes of the first games.
The area tie-in for WKU and a potential matchup with LSU is former Christian County standout Anthony Hickey ? Kentucky?s 2011 Mr. Basketball, who was recruited heavily by WKU before ending up at LSU.
