Four years ago my mother started participating to raise awareness and funds for the fight against Breast Cancer in the annual Breast Cancer Walk on Staten Island. That was the same year my aunt/ her sister was diagnosed with the disease. Since, she has journeyed to Clove Lakes Park ever year in pink threads with either my father or sister close behind. I was lucky enough to join her this time. I marched alongside hundreds of hopefuls who were? fighting the good fight and representing for lost, suffering friends and family members. Each step felt like I was helping, even if it went unnoticed.
